Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
